What P0401 means
The EGR valve recirculates a measured stream of exhaust into the intake to cool combustion and cut NOx emissions. P0401 means the computer commanded flow and measured less than expected — almost always carbon buildup narrowing the valve or its passages, since this system breathes soot for a living.

Can I just delete or block the EGR?
Setting aside that it's an emissions component and disabling it violates federal law and fails inspection — it also raises combustion temperatures permanently, inviting the exact detonation the system prevents.
