What P0522 means

The oil pressure sender is reporting at or near zero. There are exactly two possibilities — the sensor's circuit is faulty, or the pressure is genuinely gone — and they have wildly different stakes. Until a mechanical gauge test says otherwise, this code is treated as the second possibility.

A mechanical gauge threaded into the sensor's port, engine running: real numbers at idle and 2,000 RPM against spec. Healthy numbers acquit the engine in fifteen minutes and convict the sensor. It's the definitive test, it's inexpensive, and no oil-pressure code should be closed without it.

The light flickers only at hot idle — sensor or real?

That specific pattern leans real: hot oil is thinnest and idle is the pump's slowest, so genuinely marginal pressure shows there first, while wiring faults flicker with vibration and bumps instead of temperature. Hot-idle flicker is the classic early symptom of a worn pump or bearings — gauge-test it promptly.
